Advice for ALL Coaches supporting athletes who menstruate to perform optimally

In sport and exercise, coaches play a huge role in supporting female athletes to train, compete or participate whilst on their period. Optimal Period is here to help.

It is great there is an increasing amount of attention and information available for coaches about the menstrual cycle. We have worked with UK Coaching to help provide useful resources about the menstrual cycle in sport, this includes an overview of the menstrual cycle training and performance, some keywords to help understand factors related to the menstrual cycle, information to get started or the importance of creating a supportive environment where the menstrual cycle/periods can be openly discussed if needed.

We also provide coach education workshops based on 6 key themes:

  • Menstrual cycle 101
  • Openness of conversations about the menstrual cycle
  • Symptoms
  • Impact on training and performance
  • Coping Strategies
  • Menstrual health
